What happened to Hatchful
Shopify retired Hatchful as a standalone product. Archive snapshots show the hatchful.com domain going offline around April 2025, and at the time of checking (August 17, 2026), hatchful.shopify.com returns a permanent redirect to Shopify's current logo tool at shopify.com/tools/logo-maker. That page offers a free logo maker under the Shopify brand: the flow starts with creating a Shopify account, and the tool is aimed at merchants setting up a store. So Hatchful did not vanish without a successor; it was folded into Shopify's signup funnel, and the standalone no-strings-attached version is what disappeared.
What Hatchful users had, and what they lose
Hatchful's appeal was its shape: pick an industry, pick a template, get a free logo plus a pack of pre-sized social assets, profile pictures and cover images, without paying anything. Two things do not carry over. The first is the standalone editor: designs saved inside Hatchful cannot be reopened or re-exported, so whatever you downloaded is what you have. The second is the no-commitment entry: the official successor lives inside Shopify account creation rather than as a free-floating tool. Files you already exported keep working; the place you made them is gone.
The honest replacement table
Different tools replace different halves of Hatchful. Prices and terms as checked August 17, 2026:
| Tool | Price | What you get | Account | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Logo Maker | Free | Logo downloads for your business | Shopify account signup | The official successor; Hatchful URLs redirect here. Built with Shopify merchants in mind. |
| Canva (free tier) | Free (PNG) | PNG logo downloads; SVG export sits in Canva Pro, about $120/yr | Canva account | A full template editor, so the social-pack half of Hatchful's job is covered too. |
| LogoRay (free tier) | Free | Full composer with watermarked JPG previews | None to design | Original hand-curated marks, live on your name; nothing uploaded, no account to browse. |
| LogoRay Core Kit | $39 one-time | Clean SVG, favicon and avatar set, PNG in every size, palette and type pairing, commercial rights | Email at checkout | For founders who want the files with no subscription attached. |
If what you liked about Hatchful was a quick free logo with no strings, Shopify's own tool and Canva's free tier are both legitimate answers. If what you want now is a mark you own outright, with the vector files and every size, and no subscription managing it, that is the job the one-time purchase model exists for, and the job LogoRay was built around. The comparison hub holds the wider category table.
Migration tips for your existing assets
Audit what you exported.Hatchful's packs were sized for the platforms of their day, and several platforms have quietly changed their specs since. Run your current files through the free logo size checker to see which surfaces they still cover.
Re-export at current sizes. The social media logo size guide carries the current avatar and header dimensions for every major platform, checked against platform help pages. One padded 800x800 square master covers every avatar; headers each need their own export.
Rebuild rather than upscale. If all you have left is a small PNG, enlarging it will only enlarge the blur. Rebuilding the mark takes an evening and leaves you with a vector original, which is the asset Hatchful never gave you in the first place.
Common questions
Did Hatchful shut down?
Yes, as a standalone product. Shopify retired the Hatchful logo maker: the hatchful.com domain went offline around April 2025, and at the time of checking (August 17, 2026) hatchful.shopify.com returns a permanent redirect to Shopify's own Logo Maker at shopify.com/tools/logo-maker. The templates-and-social-pack tool that ranked in every free logo maker list no longer exists in its old form.
What happened to logos made with Hatchful?
Files you downloaded are yours and keep working; nothing about a shutdown invalidates an exported PNG. What went away is the editor: designs saved inside Hatchful cannot be reopened or re-exported now that the standalone tool is gone. If you only have small or cropped exports, the practical path is to rebuild the mark at full quality rather than upscale old files.
What is the best free Hatchful alternative?
It depends on what you used Hatchful for. Shopify's own Logo Maker is the official successor and is free with a Shopify signup. Canva's free tier is the closest general-purpose template editor, with free PNG downloads. LogoRay's free tier is the closest to Hatchful's shape for a brand mark specifically: design a complete logo in the browser with no signup, with watermarked previews free and the full file kit at $39 one-time.
Does Shopify still have a free logo maker?
Yes. At the time of checking (August 17, 2026), Shopify offers the Shopify Logo Maker at shopify.com/tools/logo-maker and describes it as completely free. The flow starts with creating a Shopify account, and it is built with Shopify merchants in mind. It is the page Hatchful's old URLs redirect to.
Original hand-curated marks, live on your name, no signup to design. $39 once for the SVG, favicon set and full brand kit.
